Thirty-five trainees concluded the fifth edition of the Stage d’instruction régionale embarqué et numérique (Siren) in Cotonou on 23 October 2026. The training program, which began on 14 September 2026, focused on building maritime security capabilities within the Golfe de Guinée. Commissaire général Thierry de La Burgade addressed the participants during the closing ceremony. He stated, "ces connaissances doivent désormais profiter aux administrations et nourrir la coopération régionale." The course provided specialized instruction to personnel from various regional bodies, aiming to improve operational coordination across the maritime domain. This initiative marks the latest effort to standardize technical skills for naval and administrative staff involved in regional security missions.

Curriculum and Operational Scope

The training curriculum encompassed 150 hours of instruction dedicated to addressing illicit trafficking, illegal fishing, maritime pollution, and sea rescue operations. Participants engaged in technical modules designed to refine responses to these specific threats within the maritime domain. Instructors provided practical guidance on monitoring vessel movements and coordinating responses to environmental hazards. The 150 hours of instruction were structured to ensure that participants could effectively manage the complexities of modern maritime security challenges. By focusing on these four specific pillars—illicit trafficking, illegal fishing, maritime pollution, and sea rescue—the program ensures that personnel are equipped to handle a diverse range of incidents. The technical modules allowed for hands-on application of these skills, ensuring that the 35 trainees could translate theoretical knowledge into actionable operational responses.

The Mistral remains docked in Cotonou from 22 October to 27 October 2026. Its presence in the port coincides with the conclusion of the training activities as part of Operation Corymbe. This deployment by the Marine nationale française supports regional maritime security initiatives through the provision of logistics and training platforms. The docking of the Mistral serves as a logistical anchor for the training, providing the necessary environment for the final stages of the curriculum to be completed. The presence of the vessel from 22 October to 27 October 2026 notes the commitment of the Marine nationale française to the ongoing stability of the region.

The Siren program has recorded a total of 136 participants since its inception in 2022. This figure accounts for personnel who completed the courses provided by the initiative over the past four years. The program continues to track the professional development of naval and administrative staff across participating nations. By reaching the milestone of 136 participants, the Siren program has demonstrated a consistent ability to build capacity within the maritime sector. The fifth edition, which concluded on 23 October 2026, represents a significant contribution to this cumulative total. As the program looks toward future iterations, the 136 participants trained since 2022 serve as a foundation for enhanced regional cooperation and improved maritime safety protocols across the Golfe de Guinée. Each participant, having undergone the rigorous curriculum, is now better positioned to implement the standards developed during the program.
